Individual Details
William Walter Rivers
(1863 - Aft 1935)
" William Walter Rivers was the author of the little book on the Rivers family which so many of his relatives have. He finished it at the end of 1935, as he wrote, "I (W. V. Turner) don't find any proof that Richard Rivers b. ca. 1800 ("Richard III") was a son of the William Rivers of NC.'" However, Willaim Walter thought he was William Rivers' son. W. W. Rivers traced that William further back to a Pierre Rivers who was supposedly a Hugenot refugee.
I have thus not connected the earlier family with Richard III and his descendants, about whom there is no doubt. William Walter Rivers and his wife were living at Hinchcliff, north of Marks, Mississippi, when he died. His will is on file in Quitman County, Mississippi." (Walter V. Turner, 1999.)
