Isham Langley

(Abt, 1760 - Abt, 1845)

"There are two main lines of Langleys in this area. One line started with Isham Langley's sons John and Miles, who were here before 1820. Isham followed them to Clark County in his old age. Both John and Miles died in the summer of 1831, suggesting a common tragedy killed them both.

"We're not descended from them, but we know our Langleys have got to be related because at least one of the six or more Isham/Isom Langleys have lived everywhere that our ancestors lived. We're descended from Whitfield Langley, who started out in South Carolina, moved to Georgia, and died in Alabama. Several of his sons then came to Arkansas, moving into Clark County and neighboring Dallas County. Presumably they followed their relatives to the area because it's just too darned unlikely a coincidence that Isham Langley, Sr. and Jr. lived in South Carolina when Whitfield was there. There were two Isham Langleys in the same county where he lived in Alabama. And then there's the Isham that those other local Langleys are descended from.

"Whitfield was born around 1812, the son of Isaiah Langley. He had a brother Macon and a sister Mary, who married Alfred Simpson. This is as far back as we can confirm our ancestry." (Travis Langley, email: langlet@pines.hsu.edu>.)
