Individual Details

Winfred Lee Thompson

(July 28, 1946 - )

I just came across your rootsweb page for James Thompson (married Lucy Greer), which I will be exploring in more detail over the next few weeks. I am a descendant of James and Lucy through their son William, grandson Charlie (murdered or captured resisting arrest, depending on the source, in Drew County, AR),  his son Modie Madison to my father Vester Lee.  I grew up on my grandfather's farm in Clark County, Arkansas near Gurdon in the 1950's.  I am now President of the American University of Kuwait and have begun spending my spare time researching my ancestry.  I am a real amateur at geneology and I have been unable to determine which James Thompson it was that married Lucy Greer.  Are you fairly certain that his father was John Thompson, born in NC and Mary Haynes?   Until recently, I had no idea how my grandfather got from Drew County to Clark County, but I understand now that it was somehow probably because of his aunt Frances Jane.  When Charlie Thompson was killed at about age 30, there were evidently family squabbles and my grandfather left Drew County for Clark.  I vaguely remember attending one family reunion in Possum Valley when I was a child.   Thanks,  I'll be digging more into the material you have posted."  (Win Thompson, American University of Kuwait, wint60615@yahoo.com, 2012.)
