James William "Jim" Orten

"James Melvin Orten, 79, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998 in Dawson Springs, KY. Born June 15, 1919 in Christian Co., Ky., he was the son of the late James William Orten and Victoria Trotter Orten. He was a coal miner and brick mason and member of the Star of Bethlehem Pentecostal Church in Dawson Springs. One son, one daughter, two grandchildren, one sister, and two brothers preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Norris Orten of Charleston; one daughter, Phyliss June Greer of Charleston; one sister, Ruth Hoard of Charleston; three brothers, Richard Lee Orten of Dawson Springs, Carl Loman Orten of Charleston and Johnny Elvis Orten of Christian County; four grandchildren; and sever great grandchildren. Services were at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs with burial in McKnight Cemetery in Christian County. Pallbearers were J. C. Prudy, Dewey Cranor, Roy Adams, Eddie Forbes, Wayne Richardson, Isaac Workman, and Kenneth Fuller." (The Messenger, Madisonville, Hopkins Co., Ky, Sept. 9, 1998.)
