"MARTIN TSCHUDI SR. OR 1ST (although his great grand father was the first Martin of this line) b. 1694 and was the legitimate son of Niclaus Tschudi, Sr. Martin d. in 1765 in Frenkendorf, Canton Basel, Switz. after making two trips to America. One in 1738 on Sailing Ship "Enterprise" and the last in 1749 on Sailing Ship "Crown," when he brought his eldest son, Johannes Tschudi and his first wife Anna Maria Marcklin (dau. of Hans Jogi Marcklin of Switz.) who died en route to America in 1749; Both Johannes and his father returned to Switz. Martin Tschudi, Sr. married his first cousin, Elsbeth Tschudi in 1723. (She was the first child of Weinbert von Tschudi, "Famous Frenkendorf Schoolmaster." Elsbeth was born in 1698 in Frenkendorf, Canton Basel, Switz. She was an emigrant with her son Martin 2nd and relatives, arriving on the Sailing Ship "Sally" at the Port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - 11-10-1767. She had a great desire to see her grandchildren (children of her son Johannes Tschudi) in America and her wish was granted. She died some years later."
