Individual Details

Nancy A. McCanless

(1797 - Abt, 1899)

1850 Giles County, Tennessee census, District 16, Dwelling/Family #176/176, taken 17 September 1850: Nancy A. CLARK, 53, female, real estate $3000, North Carolina, Jasper N. M. FARMER, 22, male, farmer, Tennessee; J. S. M. FARMER, 21, male, farmer, Tennessee; Burrous CLARK, 14, male, Tennessee; Nathan FARMER, 78, male, North Carolina.

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Using the will of Thomas Clark, Nancy A. McCanless' second husband, the above Jasper N. M. Farmer and J. S. M. Farmer were children of Nancy A. by a first marriage. Nathan Farmer is probably Nancy's uncle, a brother of her mother, as he signed an affivadit in 1832 for his brother-in-law, John McCanless, swearing that he knew his age to be about 78 years and that he served in the revoluationary war. This census shows a third initial of "M" for Jasper and John. The will of Thomas Clark shows the boys' last name as McFarmer, but it shows the girls' last name as Farmer. I wonder of Mc was an abbreviation of a third given name?)

1860 Giles County, Tennnessee, Lynnville: Nancy Clark was living with Jasper M. N. Farmer.
