"J. M. Porterfield et al vs. Nancy Porterfield et al - Complainants respectfully stated unto the Court that George W. Porterfield died the 24th of July 1893, intestate, at his residence in the 17th Civil District. George W. Porterfield left surviving, his widow Nancy and his children: J. M., J. D., W. E., L. B. and Willis Porterfield, Mollie wife of Aaron Griggs, Maggie wife of Mack Boaz, Winfield and G. L. Porterfield, Jane wife of W. W. White as his living children, and his grandchildren: George Judia and Ida wife of John M. Cooper who were the children of deceased daughter Susan who married Frank Judia, Dee wife of Jack Pigg only child of decease son D. D. Porterfield who died in 1865 and left surviving tow children Dee and Willis. Willis died about 1884, one child born to he and wife Annie, but died before his father. Widow Annie Porterfield then married J. M. Porterfield. George W. Porterfield died owning four tracts of land which lay in the 17th District. The 500 acres was sold by order of the County Court, Saturday, September 1, 1894. The land was situated on Clock Creek. Mrs. Nancy Porterfield was daughter and heir of Daniel Derr and as such owned a farm of about 250 acres of her own. Ida P. Cooper lived in Taylor County, Texas. Jane C. White lived in Parker County, Texas. Mary Dee Pigg lived in Ellis County, Texas." (File Box III, files January 1, 1894, Giles County, Tennessee.)
