Wilber Hendrick Hand

"W. H. Hands Return to Abilene Home - Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Hand, 1102 Poplar Street, have returned to Abilene after an absence of a year. They spent last winter in San Antonio and Mineral Wells and were in Colorado through the summer." (Abilene Reporter-News clipping, 1948.)

"Funeral for W. H. Hand, 76, will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at Elliott's chapel of Memories, with Dr. Willis P. Gerhart, retired Episcopal minister, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park. Mr. Hand died of a heart attack about 9:45 a. m. Tuesday at his home at 1102 Poplar Street. The body will lie in state at Elliott's Funeral Home until time for services. Pallbearers will be Ed Fuson, Tom Roberts, Clive Pierce, J. Russell, Ed Kniffen and W. F. Landford. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. Born August 24, 1882 in Ringo, Louisiana, Mr. Hand married Faith French Kemper on September 12, 1925, and made his home in and around Abilene for many years. He traveled for the Standard-Rice Co. of Houston before his retirement in 1942. Survivors include his wife and two sisters, Mrs. L. A. Wampler of Knox City and Mrs. Billy Dunkin of California."
