"The Greer Cemetery is located on County Road 122 west of Highway 6 south of Albany, Texas, on the old Greer Ranch presently owned by the Reaves Hickman Estate, Attorney Loren Williams of Albany, Shackelford County is the Executor. This cemetery could very well be the oldest in Shackelford County, first known burial is (#1) Jackson W. Greer, born August, 27, 1858, Woods County, Texas; died September 29, 1862, Greer's Ranch and Stage Way-Station, Shackelford County, Texas; buried in Greer Cemetery, Greer Ranch and Stage Way-Station, South Shackelford County Texas. Others interred in this Greer Cemetery, according to records found in The Old Jail Art Center's Historical and Genealogical Archives. I believe these records were prepared by Mrs. Joan Farmer, former Archivist for the Robert (Bob) Nail collection at the Old Jail Art Center. #2. ELIZABETH CATHRINE GREER CROW: daughter of GEORGE WASHINGTON GREER, JUNIOR and Ann Tomlinson or Sarah Amanda; Elizabeth C. was the wife of WILLIAM CROW, second school teacher at Fort Mugginsville School of the 1860's era. (source: Audrey P. Brooks' 1983 Moran Memorial Calendar.) She was born 1843, Woods County, Texas; died: August 11, 1890. #3. Mary Frances CROW: born December 28, 1866 to Elizabeth GREER CROW & William CROW ; died: January 29, 1888 from Tuberculosis. She was the wife of William J. HATCHER. #4. William CROW : (see #2 above) died April 26, 1884. #5. William J. HATCHER: (see # 3 above) born September 13, 1862; died: June 10, 1933. #6. Martha Amanda CROW: born July 25, 1869; died: September 3, 1950; could this have been the last burial in the Greer Ranch cemetery or was she buried in the Albany City Cemetery on US 283 with these members of the family: William Joseph, William Leslie HATCHER? #7. George W. CROW: born August 11, 1871; died: August 23, 1877 from swolling a cartidge shell. #8. Maggie May CROW: born August 7, 1874; died: July 12, 1892 from TUBERCULOSIS. #9. Leonora Bell CROW : born April 29, 1879: died: December 20, 1897 from TUBERCULOSIS. # 10. E. Caleb (Cal) GREER: born 1845; died: 1908. cause unknown #11. John R. GREER: born April 13, 1849; died: June 13, 1880 from inflammation of the bowels/appendicitis. #12 Elenzo (Lonnie) LEFLET: child of Monroe LEFLET and Maragret (Muffy) McFARLAND.
