William Lowe Jr.

(Bef 1687 - Bef May 6, 1743)

" Sarah Lowe, widow of William Lowe Jr or II, as we have seen ("Lewis Lafee Sarah Low were married May 8, 1744." (ST. JOHN'S REGISTER, Original, Hall of Records, page no ascertainable.), married (2) Lewis Lafee, and from an account or report of April 12, 1745, we learn that together they were accountants of William Lowe's estate, and in that account or report we learn that the following people were paid by the estate: Lemnol Howard (for William Low's funeral), John Standifort, John Roberts, Thomas Mitchell, Aquila Grear, Shotton[?] Standiford, Archibald Rollo, Thomas Johnson, Edward Mortimore, Robert Holiday, Robert Torio, Walter Tolley, and Sutton Sicelmore; and we further learn that total disbursements were 60. 3. 6; that the Inventory of William Lowe's estate was 348. 16. 7; that Edward Mortimore and George Elliott, both of Baltimore County, were sureties; and that Lewis Lafee and Sarah his wife took oath to the Court or Commission as to the correctness of the account or report. (ACCOUNTS, BALTIMORE, COUNTY, Liber 21, fols. 259 and 260, Hall of Records.) The payment to Aquila Grear was for a debt owed by William Lowe, and I wonder what the debt was for. As I have shown in Volume I, above, MY GREER FAMILY, William Lowe's daughter Elizabeth evidently had married my ancestor Aquilla Greer by the time of this record in 1745; in fact, she evidently had married him by the time of William's will in 1743. In the Original of that will I noticed that the name of William's daughter Elizabeth was first written "Elizabeth Low" and then the Low had been crossed out with a line or two as if the writer had realized after he had written the name that Elizabeth was married and her name was no longer Low. As a matter of fact, by November 16, 1743, we know that Elizabeth evidently had married Aquilla Greer by the time of her father's will and their daughter Sarah had been born, since (My Lowe Family" from MY GREER AND RELATED FAMILIES, Vol. II, pages 152 - 153, by Clayton Alvis Greer, about 1975.)

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Birthdate is a guess to help sort time lines out.)
