William Geer

(Abt, 1782 - November 24, 1843)

"William Geer first appears in Greene Co., GA Tax List in 1809, Capt. King's District, although he owned no valuable property and is taxed only the poll for himself. In 1810, he is taxed in Capt. A. Browning's District, for himself and 2 slaves, but still no valuable property. He is taxed thusly until 1822 when he is taxed for Greene County property on Fishing Creek and one tract of land in Oglethorpe Co. and two tracts of land in Monroe Co. An important note in the Geer-Greer family relationship is that in 1811, William Geer is taxed, again in Capt. A Browning's District, for himself & 1 slave and as administrator of the estate of James Greer, including James' land in Greene (187 1/2 acres) & Wilkinson (202 1/2 acres) Counties and guardian of James' minor children. He continues to be taxed as administrator and guardian for James Greer's minor children until 1828 when the last child reached the age of majority and he is taxed, in 1929, on the Raburn County land as owner. In 1830, The Rabun County land is taxed to David Geer, as owner. January 15, 1845 (from Greene Co., GA Deed Book OO: pp. 216-7) - James M. Geer of Greene County to Wm. B.
