"Clarence Sterling Brown was born in Ouachita County, Arkansas, where he lived until the age of four. At that time his family moved to a farm in Clark County, near Whelen Springs. His father was John Wesley Brown (1840 - 1916), who came to Clark County about 1879 from Terre Haute, Indiana."
