Jared Harrison Combs Morris

"Jared was brain injured at birth resulting in CP. The delivering physicion left him in fetal distress and he was affixeated. After the birth the attending nurse applied oxygen and external heart massage and revived him. That day he started having epileptic convulstions.
"He was taken to a neurologist and his parents were told that he had little chance of living till four years old. He was put on medication to control the convulsions. His parents gave him less than the recomended doseage and only increased it when he had convulsions. By the time he was two years old he was having no convulsions and was medication free.
"His parents took him to "The Institute for the Achievement of Human Potential" in Philidelphia where he was diagnosed as being severly brain damaged resulting in the loss of bodily coordination, blindness, mute, inability to control presperation on parts of the body and numbness to touch. Just baraly above coma.
"His intellectual ability was not harmed, but his ability to learn was affected by his inability to observe. His parants were trained in an intensive therapy program known as "Patterning." Jared was in home therapy for 12 hours a day for two years. Where he was blind, he can now read. He could feel nothing, now he can be tickeled with a feather. His health improved to normal. His coordination did not. He still cannot feed himself, walk, crawl, or speak.
"The patterning program brought good to Jared but harm to his Mother. The stress of the program brought a renewal of the polio symptoms that she had as a girl. She is now in a wheel chair again. Jared is now a student in the Burleson, Texas School District Special Education Classes. He continues to improve slowly." (Travis Morris, Cleburne, Texas, 1991.)
