"Joy Ward Neff Compton was born May 14, 1934 to Dora Coggin Ward and Henry Hodges Ward Sr. in Broadview, Curry County, New Mexico. She passed away on October 9, 2009 due to complications of lung disease. She resided at 8252 South 2900 West in West Jordan, Utah at the time of her death.
She married Leroy Neff on December 24, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. He passed away on October 5, 1981. Later married Robert Compton on July 12, 2003,. He also passed away on May 9, 2007.
She was employed throughout her life as a Teletype Operator, Avon Lady, Sales Associate at JC Penney's, Print Shop Assistant, Supervisor of Home Health Aids, and Secretary at Foothill Family Clinic. She was an avid Harmonica player and band leader for 2 Senior Harp Bands. She was a very loving, caring, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Survived by children: Gary (Wendy) Neff, Jean (Bruce) Hunt, Jackie (Jody) Imlay, and Nancy (Allen) Nielson, and step-children Lester, Kathy, Phillip (Lorraine) and Nelson. 31 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and one brother Dale Ward. Preceded in death by LeRoy Neff and Robert Compton, both parents, sisters Hazel, Helen, Wanda and Annette. Brothers: N.S., Henry Hodges Jr., Lewis W. and two grandsons, Michael and Troy Neff. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., additional viewing Tuesday, October 13, 2009 10:00-11:00 a.m., with Graveside Services to follow at 11:30 a.m. in the Murray City Cemetery. Memorial Celebration to be held at The Fellowship, 615 Sego Lily Drive, Sandy, Utah, at 2:00 p.m." (Published in the Deseret News on October 11, 2009.)
