Nanon Cleile Moore

(September 22, 1924 - September 7, 2006)

"Nanon Moore Elrod was born Sept. 22, 1924, in Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas, and was a resident of Baton Rouge for 41 years. She left this Earthly life on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, after a brief illness at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Nanon is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Lowell Austin Elrod; her daughter, Lauris Elrod Land and husband John C. Land, and their son, John Chance Land; and her son, Gilford Stewart Elrod and wife Connie L. Elrod and their daughter, Allison Nicole Elrod, and their son, Matthew Stewart Elrod. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Stewart Moore; mother, Monette Hamilton Moore; and brother, Martell Stewart Moore, who were all of Waxahachie. A master's degree in education from the University of Texas at Austin gave her the love of teaching, which she did for several years prior to her marriage. She was active in numerous genealogical organizations, including past Regent of the Baton Rouge chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution; Daughters of the American Colonists, Thomas Stanton chapter; Colonial Dames XVII Century; Texas branch, Manakin Virginia Huguenots; Colonial Daughters Seventeenth Century; and The National Society of Magna Charta Dames and Barons. She was also a member of several family genealogical associations. A devoted and loving daughter, wife and mother, she will be greatly missed by her loving family and many dear friends. She was a longstanding member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Hawley Wolfe. Interment in Waxahachie City Cemetery in Waxahachie at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 9340 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815, or the American Cancer Society." She was a member of and active in numerous genealogical societies. She is survived by her husband; her daughter and son-in-law; her son and his wife and three grandchildren."
