Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Van Camp

Ben said he heard an uncle talk about Prairie County, Arkansas, but he didn't know if they lived there or what. His mother died when he was five and his father when he was eleven, so he didn't know much about them. Ben went to Nevada with his half brother Ed, but came back in 1924 and went to live with Uncle Ollie in Glenwood, Arkansas.
Ben's delayed birth certificate says born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Ben's neice is trying to work on the family: Janet Fair, P.O. Box 61, Snyder, Texas 79550, 915-573-2194.
"Benjamin Franklin VanCamp, 92, of Gurdon, died on Saturday, January 1, 2005. He was a welding supervisor for Chicago Bridge and Iron, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gurdon. Survivors include: his wife, Florence VanCamp, of Gurdon; his son, James VanCamp and wife Irene of Pineville, Louisiana; his daughter, Nellwyn Grilliette and husband William of Judson, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Claudia. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Paul Sheets officiating. A 3 p.m. graveside service followed at Winterfield Cemetery near Longview, Texas. Arrangements are by Horne Funeral Home of Gurdon." (Obituary, Gurdon Times newspaper, January 12, 2005.)
