Obituary of Terrell Phelps
Written by Robert Shell
Died Thursday, June 3rd, 1886, at his home near Damascus church in Butler County, Ala., TERRELL PHELPS, aged about 80 years. During all these long years he lived without reproach, always maintaining a name of unsophisticated worth – a name noted for honesty, truthfulness, sobriety, charity and hospitality. He was a faithful citizen, a kind and considerate neighbor. Above all, an humble follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, whom he loved with an ardent heart. He joined the Baptist Church at Damascus about forty years ago and remained a consistent member of the same until death. He was a strong pillar of the church and was never too busy to attend its services on week day or Sabbath. He made it a point to do his Christian duty. He cheerfully performed each task his brethren required at his hands.
