"Saxon, Benjamin (b.1844 Autauga Co. AL.) enlisted 7/19/1861 at Brooksville. Appointed musician 3/1/1862. Discharged 6/30/1862. He was 5'1", fair skin, blue eyes, light hair, occupation: student. "SUDDEN DEATH --- On Monday last, Mr. B. W. Saxon, Sheriff of Hernando county, after a very short illness, died at the Hotel Warwick, in this city. Mr. Saxon had been suffering from chills and fever for some time past, and it is supposed was very much debilitated when he arrived here. Last Saturday night, while sitting before a fire in his room, he was attacked with rheumatic pains in his ankles. He immediately retired, and a physician was sent for, who did all for him that was possible. Mr. Saxon gradually continued failing, and finally died at 11o'clock Monday morning. The funeral took place from the hotel, and was attended by Governor Sterns, his Cabinet, and a large number of friends." (Tallahassee Sentinel, Saturday, December 2, 1876, Tallahassee, Florida.)
