Funeral services for James T. Merriman, 72, of Levelland will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at College Avenue Baptist Church, Levelland, with Rev. Mike Honzell, pastor, and Rev. Bruce Cotton, Chaplain, Hospice of Lubbock, officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 in the Barbee Cemetery, near Dublin, Texas under the direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland. He died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Jim was born on August 19, 1936 to Murray B. and Effie N. James Merriman in San Angelo. He married Claudene Randolph on April 9, 1957 at Rankin. Following his retirement in 1987, after 30 years with AMOCO, he enjoyed many hobbies, a few of which were gun collecting, restoring old cars and tractors, woodworking, also playing and listening to Blue Grass and Gospel music. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Texas Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; one sister; and two sons, Noel G. Merriman and Malcolm B. Merriman.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Claudene Merriman of Levelland; his son, James R. (Randy) Merriman and his wife Tammy; two grandsons, Brandon J. Merriman and Malcolm C. Merriman; granddaughter, Valerie Merriman Herman; two precious great-grandchildren, Parker Herman and Aubrie Merriman; and a sister, Louise Penwell of Meridian.
