It is with great sadness that the family of Lila H. Mattox announces that she passed from this life on September 3, 2018.
Lila was living in Gainesville, Ga. after moving from Hermitage, Tn.
Lila was the daughter of James Burleigh Hodnett (1902-1967) and Madeline Thomas Hodnett (1905-1980) and was born on November 18, 1925.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James H. Phelps (1926-1986) and 2nd husband Robert Mattox, a sister Alice Hodnett Fowler (1927-1976) and a brother Burleigh Hodnett (1932-2012).
Survivors include her son, James Gary Phelps & his fiancée Bonnie Pietrowski of Bayfield, Co., her two brothers, Harold Hodnett and his wife Billie and Clarence Hodnett and his wife Delene. She has many nieces and nephews.
Lila was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Tennessee. She was initiated into the Buchanan Chapter #286 on Dec. 13, 1971. She became Worthy Matron in 1976. In 1992 she became associated with the Center Star Chapter #342. She has been a member of the Old Hickory Chapter #203 since Jan. 2002.
The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 8, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens in Birmingham, Al.
