Major Stephen William Cole

(January 1, 1813 - September 18, 1889)

Stephen William Cole was an Anson County, North Carolina Justice of the Peace and a President of the First Bank in Wadesboro. He helped establish Caroline Female College (1850-1867), but it declined after the War. He bought land in Florida and Arkansas with the idea of establishing colonies for his slaves. One of his servants remained in Arkansas for 25 years after the Civil War. He and his seconnd wife moved to Salisbury and he became President of the bank there, and helped establish a cotton factory. He was a Methodist.
