Frank E. Prather, 86, of E. Riverside Drive, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at his home.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon - 5:00 PM, Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 1, 2017, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Veilleux officiating.
Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Frank Prather was born in Longmont, Colorado on April 29, 1931 to Frank Watts Prather and Elizabeth Mary Irons Prather. He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Virginia Nelson in 1949, and they were happily together until her passing in 2003. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1948, and went to Coin Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois in 1948. He was hired by the General Telephone Company (GTE) in 1949 and was quickly promoted. He spent many years as Central Office Foreman. He made life-long friends of his colleagues at GTE and loved his job. Frank was talented in his ability to fix just about anything and helped everyone he knew and many he didn’t know with their cars, televisions, houses and boats. If someone needed help, he was the first one called and he thought it was fun. He hunted and fished his whole life, most notably on a series of winter elk hunts in the Pecos Wilderness and on fly fishing trips to the San Juan River with his son Rex and his long-time hunting and fishing companions. He supported his daughter, Wren’s, work in sculpture by helping with engineering, welding, and general positive and funny opinions. He had a talent for truly enjoying life and moving through the bad times with a steady belief that everything would be better tomorrow. Everyone he knew benefitted from his happy outlook on life.
Survivors are his son, Rex Prather and wife, Diane of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Wren Prather Stroud and husband, Cliff of Carlsbad, NM; close friend, Patsy Griffith; grandchildren: Rexanna Frintz, April Prather Fox and husband, Brian; Frank William Barnett and wife, Angie; Alison Stroud Counts and husband, Keith; Lia Wren Burns and husband, Scott. Great-grandchildren: Tyler, Dayna, Shea, Dusty, Sarah, Haley, Kinley, Kooper, Alex and Austin; great-great-grandchildren: Brexlynn, Lynox and Maxxon.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Frintz, Brian Fox, Frank Barnett, Cliff Stroud, Rex Prather, and Bud Cattaneo.
