"Everett James Greer, 83, of Conrad Street, died Friday, January 15, 2010, at his home following an extended illness. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Doug McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. 

"Mr. Greer was born October 30, 1926, in Ashe County, to Ross Edward Greer and Myhr Greer Greer. He was retired from the maintenance department at PPG Industries and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 8, Amvets, and VFW Post 3074. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Callahan. 

"Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Maxine Potts Greer of the home; son, Billy Greer and wife, Alice, of Lexington; Daughter, Tamra Benson and husband, Danny, of Lexington; son-in-law, Greg Callahan; grandchildren, Chad Callahan and wife, Guadalupe, of King, Christy Callahan of Thomasville, Troy Suginaka of Lexington, Reid Greer and wife, Lauren, of Maryland, and Kari Greer of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Austin Callahan of Lexington, Eli Greer of Maryland, and Tyler Rayburn of Lexington; brother, James Greer and wife, Martha, of Charlotte, and a sister, Lucy Kelly of Texas."
