Individual Details

William Henry Luckett

(July, 1851 - 1903)

William H. Luckett, son of George Washington Luckett, married Martha Livingston. Offspring were Henry Lee (my grandfather), Valentine Livingston (Uncle Liv, we called him -- he didn't use Valentine, but his son Valentine use "Val"; Valentine was a Livingston family name, originally Volentine), Myron, Savantha (or something like that - male) and Geneveve (died young of TB). William H. Luckett was a sewing machine mechanic. Died from pneumonia caused by inhaling a spring from a sewing machine that he had been holding in his mouth while working on one. For years my granddad had that spring in an envelope, tucked away. Sons of William H. were all machinists, mechanics, train engineer -- very talented in the mechanical arts. My grandfather was amazing at making and fixing things in metal and wood. My father (Hubert Pearson Luckett) also. My father was editor of Popular Science Magazine. William H. Luckett family was from Coleman, Texas. The Luckett line of William H is: William H., George W. (said to be a millwright and did serve in Mexican War), William C., Lt. Samuel (1756 - 1783, served on patriot side and disabled), Ignatius Jr., Ignatius Sr., Samuel (1650 - 1705) and from there of course it becomes controversial but one source has the old country line from there as Thomas (makes sense that one son of Samuel would be named after paternal grandfather), Richard, Thomas, Marks, William, Markis (1480 - 1547) with many (or all) of the English ancestors in Hastings Sussex. (from James Pearson Luckett, 2010.)
