J. Dalton Mooneyham

"J. D. Mooneyham, trustee and tax collector of Van Buren county, died at Faulkner Springs hospital here Friday at 8:35 p. m. He was 53. Mr. Mooneyham, a leading figure in the political life of his home county for a number of years, suffered a heart attack Thursday enroute to the hospital here for treatment of a kidney disorder. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 P. m. at Spencer Baptist Church. Rev. Reid S. Compton, the pastor, officiated and burial was in Crain Hill cemetery. A verteran public official, Mr. Mooneyham was born in Van Buren county April 12, 1901. He was a son of Jacob Daniel and Sallie Grissom Mooneyham and he was married to Miss Lucinda Summers in 1924. She survives. Mr. Moonyham would have completed his fifth term as trustee of Van Buren county September 1. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Leonard Mooneyham, Jacksonville, Ala.; two daughter, Mrs. Wilford Dunn, Nashville and Mrs. Dale Wyant, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.; a brother, Walter Mooneyham, Bledsoe county, Mrs. Virgil Hillis, (Huntsville, Ala.) High Funeral Home in charge of arrangements." (Obituary, August 5, 1954.)
