In 1908, William Bonaparte Cole chartered the Hannah Pickett Mills named for his grandmother, "with such a saintly name, the plant cannot fail." The mill sold in 1944 to Safie Bros., Inc. with a 2400% increase on each original share of $100. Mr. Cole built a village of mill houses for employees, along with a community building and a company store. His son Bob worked in several capacities in the mill."
