Major Thomas Jefferson Burnett

(August 30, 1826 - October 8, 1887)

"Maj. Thomas Jefferson Burnett, son of William & Catherine Burnett, was born August 30, 1826 in Greenville and died October 8, 1887. Survived by his sons, William Burnett who moved to Texas in 1874, Jeff Burnett of Columbus, Georgia, and daughters Ann Patton and Mrs. J. W. Deming. Another son, Ellwood, died in Texas in 1878. In the Civil War he raised a company of Butler County boys and became part of the 17th Alabama Reg. He was soon promoted to a Major. He was injured in one of the battles near Atlanta July 29, 1864."
