"Emma Knowles first married Robert Jolley, the son of Margaret Frances (Ozment) and Lucius Bavania "Luke" Jolley. Robert Jolley died during their second year of their marriage of malaria. Emma's second husband was William Cox, son of Adelia (Harrison) and Tom Cox of Bradley County. William and Emma had no children, but adopted Earl Newman, who married Bessie Carter, and Merle Newman, who married Tommy Hoffman. Emma had 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren in 1980.
