"Fred Sluder, 87, 11054 Highway 421 North, Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001 at his residence. He was a native of Ashe County, North Carolina and was a son of the late Amos and Abby Greer Sluder. He was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Sluder and Teddy Sluder. He was a former employee of Tipton Construction of Bristol, Tennessee for 45 years and a member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM for 52 years. Survivors include his wife, Faye Sluder, of the home; seven sons, Bill Sluder, Abilene, Texas; Jim Sluder, Tonica, Illinois; Harold Sluder and David Sluder, both of the home; Walter "Tiny" Sluder, Florida; Earl Sluder and Tommy Sluder, both of Shady Valley, Tennessee; three daughters, Margaret Hing, New Johnsonville, Tennessee; Debby Richards, Bristol, Tennessee; Connie Cook, Knoxville, Tennessee; two sisters, Edna Blevins, Shady Valley, Tennessee; Faye Rozzia, Coatesville, Pennsylvania; one brother, Ottis Sluder, Shady Valley, Tennessee; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 7 p.m. from the Chapel of the Percy-Hux Funeral Home with Dr. Tom Peake officiating. Masonic services will follow the funeral service. Graveside and interment were conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the Shady Valley Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Craig Sluder, Chad Sluder, Alex Richards, Calvin Sluder, Steven Sluder and Charles Cook. Honorary pallbearers were Harold Tipton, Howard Campbell, Joe Bell, David Roark and Gerald Buckles. Memorials may be made to the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM, Building Fund, c/o Bill McGuire, 1018 North Church Street, Mountain City, TN 37683.
