James Burch Kimbrough

"In his Confederate Pension Application, J. B. Kimbrough stated he was 69 years old in 1909 and that he was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee, (which corresponds with information about James Birch Kimbrough in the Kimbro-Kimbrough Genealogical Quarterly). According to the pension application, J. B. Kimbrough enlisted in Co. A., Vaughn's Brigade, 59th Tennessee Regiment, in the fall of 1861 and served until 21 April 1865, and was honorably discharged at Newton, North Carolina. A statement from the U. S. War Department, Adjutant General's Office, dated 21 February 1910 (attached to the pension application) states, "The records show that J. B. Kimbrough, private, Company A, 59th Tennessee Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted November 3, 1861, and that he was captured July 4, 1863, and paroled July 9, 1863. On the last company roll on file dated February 28, 1865, he is reported sergeant, 'Absent without leave since 1st, 1865.' (month not stated). No later record of him has been found."
