Edward Roch

(November 1, 1846 - November 3, 1911)

John and Edward Roch came to Texas from Massachusetts during or shortly after the Civil War. John and Edward fought for the north during the Civil War. John came to Texas in 1866 and Edward came to Texas in 1869. John was a Captain in the Union Army during the Civil War and was a member of the G. A. R. which stands for the Grand Army of the Republic from 1861 - 1866. He was known around Comanche Co. as "Capt. Roch". John was a prominate citizen in Comanche Co., and very actively involved in the community affairs. John's first wife was Mary A. Marshall. They married 1869 and they had two boys, Edward Bailey and Tommie. Mary A. died after giving birth to Tommie. Tommie was born Feb. 20, 1873 and Mary A. died two months later on April 19,1873. Edward Bailey was 3 years old and Tommie was 2 months old when their mother died. Later that same year on Dec. 28, 1873, John married Fannie I. Carnes in Proctor, Comanche County, Texas. They had eleven children, six boys and five girls. John Bernard Roch had a total of thirteen children. According to the book "History Of Texas" and the biography as told by John Bernard Roch, John and Fannie were parents of these children; Mary who married Walter Holt; Irma wife of Newton Hoover; Ella, twin sister of Irma deceased; Laura who marriedW. F. Pearsin; twin boys Lee and Grant; Grant is deceased,Lee married Lorena White; Will (I believe is the same as William Wasson) married Claudia Bryant; Kate married T. J. Halloway; James and Sam D. Roch. These children had all died at the time of the writing of this book Ella, Phil C., Fanny, Grant and Katie. John Bernard Roch and Fannie I. Carnes Roch are buried at Proctor Cemetery at Proctor, TX. Tidbit: John and Edward once took part in the 1870 Hog Creek Indian fight. John was wounded and almost died.
