Rowland Mary was probably living at home when the 1840 Carroll Co census was taken as there was one female between 40 and 50 years old (1790-1800) residing with George Sr. at that time. When the 1850 Newton Co (008) Jackson twp (108) AR census was taken Mary was listed as 55 years old (1795) born NC living with her mother Martha Rowland. Martha Rowland must have died between 1850 and 1860 as she is not listed in the 1860 census. There was a 50 year old (1910) Mary Rowland listed as born NC living with James and Grace Storie in Newton Co Prarie twp (972) AR when the 1860 census was taken. Age whould be 65 (1795). 78 year old (1792) born NC Mary Rolland was living with John A. and Victoria Lee in Newton Co (185), Prarie twp, AR when the 1870 census was taken. When the 1880 Boone Co (578B), Jefferson twp (41) AR census was taken 90 year old (1790) Mary Rowland was listed in the residence of, and as a sister of Robert P. Rowland (R3-3). In the profession, occupation or trade column of the census by Mary's name the notation "TOO OLD" was made and in the columns place of birth of mother and father the statement "CAN'T TELL" was written. In fact Mary was an aunt of Robert's and a sister to his father, George Rowland Jr. (George III). As can be seen there is much confusion as to Mary's age (year of birth) on the census reports. I would think that the most accurate would be that she was 55 (1795) when the 1850 census was taken as she was residing with her mother at this time and the information was probably provided to the census taker by her mother.
