On the 1860 Anson County, North Carolina census, Ellen is living with her aunt and uncle, Ellen H. (Parsons) and William H. Glass in Wadesboro. Her aunt Ellen Glass left everything to this Ellen (niece) in her will. Per documents at the State Archives in Raliegh, North Carolina, Ellen Terry owned a house on E. Wade Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. On April 7, 1911 she was declared a lunatic and incapable of managing her business affairs; Anson Real Estate and Insurance Company was appointed as her guardian. She was confined at the State Hospital at Morganton, North Carolina. On 11 July 1911, J. A. Leake and W. P. Parsons purchased her house (reported to have been poorly maintained) and lot in Wadesboro for $6300.00.
