"My Dear Beloved Husband, Mr. George McIntosh Simmons, whom God moved from this life on October 4, 1978 to live and work with Him in Heaven forever. A very deserved, honorable service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, 1978, at the Crisp Funeral Home Chapel, Winter Haven, Florida, and also at the gravesite in Brooksville Cemetery, Brooksville, Hernando County, Florida at 3:00 p.m. the same day. Mr. Simmons was born in Tupelo, Arkansas August 23, 1899. Moved to Florida with his family in 1921. Lived to West Palm Beach, Tallahassee, and then moved to the Brooksville and Orlando area. Moved from Orlando to Winter Haven in 1956 with his wife, Marguerite of thirty happy, joyful year Mr. Simmons is a very Refined Christian Gentleman of highest integrity, honesty, professional, intellectualism. etc. He helped so many, many people in so many, many ways. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Newport, Arkansas. Mr. Simmons was a retired Executive with the State and Federal Government for thirty-two years. He served as Field Supervisor, Central Florida area, Florida Industrial Commission, the Manager, Florida State Employment Service. He owned and operated his Diamond "S" Ranch of registered cattle in the Brooksville area for appropriately 38 years. Cattle included Herefords, Red Angus, Charolais, Cross-Breds, and Exotic Breeds. Mr. Simmons was a member of the following cattle associations: American Hereford Association, Florida; Gentleman's Association, Florida; Red Angus Association; Hernando Co. Cattleman's Association; National Cattleman's Association; Red Angus Association of America and Southeastern Red Angus Association." (obituary from Barbara Daugherty, barjene3@juno.com, 2005.)
