William is the son of Richard and Hepsebeth Caple Iley.

On Nov. 4, 1863 he was united in marriage with Elvira "Elva" Flowers. To this union there are 5 known children.

About 1877 he became a widower. Date of Elva's death is unknown. She may of died when or shortly after her last child was born in 1876 or not until sometime in early 1878. Most anyone knows it was probably sometime in 1877.

On Nov. 28, 1878 he was united in marriage with Juliana Narcissus Griffith. To this union they had 4 known children.
