Funeral Services for Claude C. Smart, of Cumby, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, in the Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park with Pallbearers being Jackie Moore, Chester Lewis Moore, Thomas Raymond Smart, Donald Smart, Marvin Smart Jr. and Randy Joe Hein. Smart passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, in the V.A. Hospital in Dallas. He was born on July 24, 1920, in Mason, Texas, to Harvey and Lena Griffith Smart. He was returned from Millwright and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Bessie Lorrayne Baugh; she preceded him in death in 1964. He married Ruth Smith; she preceded him in death in 1989. Survivors include: daughter, Gladys Waunelle Laird of Greencoat Springs, Fla.; sons, Clinton Ray Smart of Midlothian, Claude Duane Smart of Matslick, Ky., and Ernest Lee Smart; brothers, Ben Smart of Sadler, E.B. Smart of Tucson, Ariz., and Marvin Smart of Lockland, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
