Matilda "Tilla" Hatcher

(February 1, 1873 - September 12, 1920)

"Tilla Hatcher, daughter of William H. and Susan Hatcher, was born in White County, Illinois, February 1, 1872, died September 13, 1920. She claimed Christ as her savior and at the age of 16 years united with the Christian Church at Trumbel, near Carmi, and lived a devoted and faithful member until the death angel came and called her spirit home. She always contended firmly for the things that were for the upbuilding and good of the neighborhood where she lived. She was highly esteemed and loved by all that knew her. She spent her entire life at home with her aged father and mother, who for several years have been afflicted and dependent upon someone for daily help. While in the prime of her life disease began to prey upon her body, she went to her brother in Rochester, Minnesota, seeking medical aid, where she died. She leaves to mourn their loss, father, mother, five brothers, three sisters, and a host of relatives and friends, but we weep not as those that have no hope, for we expect to meet her in the sweet by and by. Funeral services were conducted at Cartright Chapel, September 12, by A. R. Weatherford and D. H. Knight." (Carmi Times Newspaper, Carmi, Illinois, September 13, 1920. Sent to Marilyn V. Young by Gene Hatcher, from a scrapbook started in 1889 by his Great Grandmother Susan Hatcher.)
