Individual Details

Samuel Nelson

(Abt, 1717 - April, 1765)

"David Nelson was born about 1730-1737 in Ulster (Northern Ireland), son of Samuel Nelson and wife Margaret. Samuel Nelson was on the 1755 Tax List for Orange County, North Carolina with two White Polls, the second being his oldest son David. Samuel moved west to what became Guilford County, and was on the 1759 Tax List of Rowan County, North Carolina. Samuel's 1764 Rowan County will and 1765 estate settlement records indicate he was survived by two sons, David and John, and four married daughters, not all of whom have been identified. All but son David then lived in what became Guilford County, North Carolina. David remained in Orange County when his parents went west." (Per Notes of Alex S. Thompson, via Lou Tate Walker, 2006.)

"The will of Samuel Nelson was dated October 26, 1765, Rowan County, North Carolina. It was witnessed by Bennet Bradford and Adam Wilson. Lists wife, Margaret and children, John, Margaret and David." (ROWAN COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA WILLS by Olds. - North Carolina Wills Book N, page 278.)

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: From a group sheet of Mary Frank Dunn, it appears Samuel Nelson had one daughter who married William Moore.)
