Isaac Newman
(October 20, 1800 - July 21, 1894)
1880 Jefferson, Green County, Wisconsin census, page 110B: Isaac NEWMAN, farmer, head of household, widowed, 79, born in PA, parents born in PA; Emma C. NEWMAN, school teacher, daughter, 33, born in PA, parents born in PA; William Born, laborer, other, single, 20, born in Prussia, parents born in Prussia.
"Isaac Newman's parents both died when he was quite young, and he was raised by Ephraim Walters. He had 18 Children of whom 11 lived beyond childhood. In 1849 He moved from German Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, to Jefferson Township, Green County, Wisconsin. He is buried with his wife north of Juda, Wisconsin, in the Mount Vernon Cemetery. They both belonged to the Baptist Church." (Harry E. Roderick, 1976 letter to Sparks Family Association.)
"The only Newman is an Isaac Newman who obtained a warrant to a tract of 249 acres of land in Dukard Township, Green County, Pennsylvania, on October 8, 1786. This was surveyed on February 12, 1787 and patented to Newman on October 26, 1789. This tract bordered Greene Township of Green County. It would seem quite possible that this Isaac Newman was the father of your Isaac. You mentioned that Ephraim Walter reared your Isaac. An Emphraim Walters obtained a warrant on January 29, 1785 to a tract of 216 1/4 acres, called Cold Spring, in Nicholson Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The farm to the north of Ephraim Walters' farm bordered German Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and was not far from the Monongahela River which forms the line between Greene County and Fayette County. Ephraim Walters' survey was dated March 5, 1785, and his patent was dated February 3, 1787. His immediate neighbors were Stephen Ashbee, Christopher Weedman, Michael Debull, Michael Catt, and George Ballinger." (Letter from Russell Bidlack (Sparks Family Association secretary) to Harry E. Roderick, 1976.)
