Henry Absalom Wood

(Abt, 1834 - July 2, 1862)

For the record; it is noted in a roster of Company A, 37th, Regt. North Carolina Troops, shows the following: "Woods, Henry Absalom, Pvt. resided in Ashe Co where he enlisted at age 25, May 1, 1862, for the war. He was wounded at Gaines Mill, Virginia on or about June 27, 1862, died in hospital at Richmond, Virginia, July 2, 1862 of wounds.

The Civil War information above of Henry Absalom Wood conflicts with that of the Henry Wood recorded in the 1870 Ashe census, the age difference of this Henry and his spouse is also in question, however some of the children match within reason. These could be two different Henry Woods.

1860 Ashe County, North Carolina census, #699.

1870 Ashe County, North Carolina census.
