Gilbert Jefferson Hatcher

"GILBERT HATCHER DEPARTED THIS LIFE WEDNESDAY - The funeral of Gilbert Hatcher Occurred at Little Wabash Church, near Crossville, Il. Friday. The hand of death has been laid on Gilbert Hatcher and he has been taken to the world where death is unknown. Deceased formerly lived near Crossville, Il. where until one year ago he and his little family resided. Death came into his home about a year ago, taking the wife and mother of his two sons. Shortly after this, grief over the death of his wife and the breaking up of his home unbalanced Mr. Hatcher's mind and he was sent to the hospital at Anna for a time. A few months ago he returned to this county and went to the home of his brother, Chris Hatcher, residing near Emma, Il. at whose home he passed away. Gilbert Hatcher was born March 9, 1885, departed this life January 19, 1921, aged 35 years, 10 months, and 10 days. He was married in March, 1910 to Miss Arra Higginson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Higginson, who passed from this life one year ago. To this union were born three sons, the oldest dying in infancy. Deceased united with the Primitive Baptist Church four years ago. He was loyal to his church and lived an exemplary Christian life until death. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons, Arnold Woodrow, seven years of age, and Oran Randell, aged three years. Also five brothers, Chris. of Carmi, Milton of Mt. Carmel, William of Eldorado, Simon of Vincennes, Indiana, Levi of Junction, Ilinois: one half-brother Sherman Newman, of Mt. Vernon, Ind. and three sisters, Mrs. Malissa Gibson of Mt.Carmel, Il., Mrs. Alice Bain of Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, and Mrs. Mollie Kasterson of Vincennes, Indiana. Funeral services were held at Little Wabash Curch, east of Crossville, Friday morning, January 21st. at eleven o'clock, conducted by Elder W. C. Arnold, of Carmi, assisted by Elder C.C. Hughes of Epworth. Interment was made in Little Wabash Cemetery." (Obituary from the Carmi Times Newspaper, Carmi, Illinois. It was sent to Marilyn V.
