Arthur Vollie Jennings

"Arthur Vollie Jennings, age 80, of Coleman, died Thursday, November 4, 2004 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. Funeral service was held Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tim Temple officiating. Burial followed in the Mount View Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Arthur Vollie Jennings was born September 8, 1924 in Coleman, Texas, a son of the late Dr. William Leonard Jennings and Mattie Asenath Horne Jennings. He grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School in 1942. He attended Texas A&M, ACU, HSU and graduated from Texas Tech. Arthur served in the U. S. Army during World War II and married Gussie Sparkman in 1945 in Abilene. He was a math, science and agriculture teacher and a rancher. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Coleman and was presently attending Abilene Bible Church. Arthur was a member of the Gideons International and the Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife, Gussie Sparkman Jennings of Coleman; four sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur Vollie Jennings, Jr. and wife Sandra of Rock Springs, Texas, Galan Jennings and wife Jerri Lou of Kermit, Rodney Jennings and wife Nancy of Clyde, Tommy Jennings and wife Lavonia of Rotan; one brother, David Jennings and wife Billie of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Marian Jennings Whitaker of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren, Jerry Lynn Emmanuel of Houston, Jamie Kaye Pack of Dallas, John Wesley Jennings of Corsicana, Stacy Jennings of Novice, Royce Jennings of Seneca, Nebraska, Thomas Coby Jennings of Plainview; six great-grandchildren, John Emmanuel, Aaron Pack, Aerial Pack, Zachary Tanner Jennings, Haden Witt Jennings, Whitney Reye Jennings.
