Willie Pearl Glasson

(January 21, 1902 - October 23, 2007)

"Willie Pearl Glasson Seal Williams will be 100 years old on January 21, 2002. She was the third child born to E. G. Glasson and Ella Lewis in the winter of 1902, Bell County , Texas, somewhere around Rogers or Hyderhammer. Her father had moved to Texas from Phoebe, Mississippi, after the Civil War with his widowed mother and two brothers and three sisters. He met and married Ella in Bell County. Three other children were born before he moved to Coleman County. One other, Louis, was born after they moved to a farm east of the present town of Coleman. Willie was married at 21 to Charles A. Seals, her childhood sweetheart, when he came home from World War I. In 1929 one child was born to that union, Ella Jean Sneed, who now lives in Bryan, Texas. He was the first of his brothers to die from a heart condition, which later took them all. She worked for awhile at Coulson's Drug store and later happily married Dee Williams, of the Burkett Community and lived in the Burkett Community and in the City of Coleman on Walnut Street for eighteen years. She was so deeply attached to her life in this county that it kept her from ever being happy when she moved to Bryan, Texas, where she lived 17 years. When she had a home in Coleman, she was involved in community work and was honored in March, 1979 with 14 other women for 750 combined years membership to Extension Homemaker's Club work. To my knowledge she has outlived all the others so honored. She also was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Coleman and served in all offices of her Sunday School Class. Willie joined the FBC on October 21, 1973 and continues to be a member. She loved people and at one time, could tell some history of everyone in the county. That is long since past. In 1998 she came to live in Holiday Hill with her daughter's sincere hope that some face might be familiar to her. At one time two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law also resided there but she could not put their right names to their faces. She was talented with handwork and sewing and loved to sing. I am told she still sings when they sing the old Christian hymns at Holiday Hill although she stopped reading long ago and is unable to count. She is content. I am so thankful. God has been good. She has never been seriously ill and only in the hospital here twice. At this time here medication is a minimal vitamin at night. Her parents, her sister Winnie and her husband Willis Brehmn preceded her in death. Also her brothers, Hugh and wife Maggie Ticer and their son Hugene who died 2001; Kay and his wife, Beulah Odem; Johnny and his wives, Pearl Bell and Jewell. Also brothers, George and his wives, Pearl Davis and Ida Gafford Smith; Louis and wife Clarice Bell Glasson. Also preceding her in death are both her husbands and a son-in-law, Jack Sneed who died in 1992. She is survived by one daughter, Jean of Bryan, Texas and her two children; Mike and his son, and David and his wife Melissa and their three children and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are one step-son, Leroy Williams and his wife Billie of Coleman and their children, Mark and Gail Brown and their three children. She has also survived all the in-laws of both husbands except Mrs. Claude (Mildred Hatcher) Seals and her two children of Coleman and Mrs. Clifford (Rosalie Gilliam) Seals of Holiday Hill. Other family members still residing in Coleman County are Doyle Glasson and Ann Glasson (Mrs. Wesley Jackson). Geraldine (Seals) Wilder, Doris (Seals) Mrs. Tommy McCulloch, Donnie Henderson, grandson of her first husband's sister, Rosa Henderson of the Trickham area. An aunt's grandson, Charles Stafford, also resides in Coleman. If you celebrate her birthday on Saturday afternoon, January 19 at 2 o'clock at Holiday Hill, odds are extremely high that she will not know you but she will think she ought to. She has long since stopped recognizing anyone and in her mind she has moved all her family up to Holiday Hill with her but she would greet you with a smile and be glad to see you. Everyone who knows Willie Seals Williams and would like to celebrate her 100th birthday, join her at Holiday Hill at 2 p.m. Saturday. You will be blessed when visiting this gracious, lovely lady. We wish to express our thanks to LaVerne Stark of Coleman who helped in the gathering of information, etc. on this story." (Coleman Chronicle and Democrat-Voice, Coleman, Texas January 17, 2002.)
