(Bef 31 Jul 1828 - 7 Apr 1905)

Letter from Laura Georgiana Glynn [Wife of Edmund Anthony Glynn], Eton Villa, Shanklin, I.W., to John H.O. Glynn, London - ref. OG/CC/1364 - date: 10 February 1884
[from Scope and Content] "Your first letter reached us when I was in grief for the death of a very dear cousin, one of the very few remaining of my own people. [She was the daughter of Rev. John Templer, vicar of Cullompton, Devon]. She died after only 3 days illness of dyptheria. Edmund was very fond of her. She had been with us at Genoa and she and her husband and child spent the winter in this house with us 3 years ago. The last few days Edmund has not been so well - got fresh cold, somehow. But staying in bed all day yesterday and mustard poulticing has done him good, and he is down again. I wrote to Ellen Brune, but did not tell her Florence was at Tregothnan. I am quite sure they would be vexed that Florence was in the county without their knowing it, and Edmund is writing to Charles by this post and will mention it. I think you are ultra scrupulous not to have written yourself, as you know them so well and they are so fond of you. What a sad story aboutthe Hyetts. Our excellent chaplain at Genoa died a day or two after Christmas, leaving a wife and daughter in sadly straightened circumstances and the colony is trying to raise £1,000 for the poor widow. I have been writing to different people, who have long purses and kind hearts. They have already got over £600. I wish so very much you would run down to us for Saturday to Monday while Florence is away. It would cheer up dearest Edmund who gets so low and depressed. Edward Brune comes to his old quarters next door on Thursday. He is going to establish himself at Rowner very shortly. The Pophams are here, but I haven'tseen much of them.
