Lt-Col John A. Ouchterlony Royal Engineers
(19 Jan 1813 - 29 Apr 1863)
I think this is the same John Ouchterlony who wrote extensively on Chinese Wars of 1842
The Chinese War; An Account of All the Operations of the British Forces from the Commencement to the Treaty of Nanking
Lt Col in Madras Engineers
Edward Dumaresq Thomas of Abergavenny Esq. married Violet Isabella Elliot Clare Ouchterlony (b.1849) in 1869. She was the daughter of Alice Trevor Ouchterlony of Tredillion Park, Abergavenny, and John Ouchterlony, a soldier in the Madras Engineers.
Pity JOHN OUCHTERLONY. By the time they brought him to the healinghills, it was too late. On April 29, 1863, Lieutenant Colonel Ouchterlony of the Royal Madras Engineers died of "jungle fever brought on by exposure while in the execution of his duty," says a memorial plaque at St. Stephen's Church in Ootacamund, a British colonial town in the Nilgiri Hills of southern India.
Heads of Proposed Settlement on the intended Marriage of Edward Dumaresq Thomas esq. and Miss Violet Isabella Elliot Clare Ouchterlony, an infant (born 8 November 1849).
