Individual Details
Amelia Anne Templer
(22 May 1815 - 18 Jan 1902)
Was baptised twice! On the first occasion, the day she was born at Chumleigh, (see the Chumleigh Parish register) where her father, George, used to hunt, and later by Rev John Templer, her great uncle, who was the Rector of Teigngrace and Highweek. He obviously did not realise that she had already been baptised. His entry in the register at Highweek reads 'Admitted Amelia Ann born in the Parish of Chumleigh, 22 May 1815, base born child, daughter of Ann Wreyford. Privately baptised in Highweek by the Reverend John Templer'.
Amelia Ann baptised on 27 December 1816 (Parish Register of Baptisms for Highweek 1816 p.9):
No 69: Admitted Amelia Ann. Born in the parish of Chudleigh May 22 1815. Base born child daughter of Ann Wreyford of Highweek (no profession given) Ceremony performed by C. Bruch, Curate.
It is thought that Amelia Ann was originally baptized on the day of her birth 22 May 1815 with her brother George
