Marriage

David Sydney Clayton and Marilyn Jean Eisele were married on Oct. 31, 1953, at the Foursquare Church in Burbank where they both had attended with their families since childhood.
Marilyn graduated from John Burroughs High School in June 1953 and her first date with Dave was on graduation night.
Dave graduated from Hoover High School in Glendale in 1951, and joined the U.S. Navy immediately after graduation.
He was home on leave after 18 months in Guam when they began their courtship and were married three months later. After the wedding, they honeymooned in Palm Springs then moved to San Diego until Dave was discharged from his four-year stint in the service.
They moved back to Burbank and Dave entered the plumbing business, which lasted another 35 years. During that time, they raised five sons. Dave was involved in coaching their sons in sports and also was booster club president at Burbank High School for two years when their oldest sons were students there.
Marilyn was a stay-at-home mom until their youngest son started school, then she worked part time at Marie Callender’s in Toluca Lake for 10 years.
In 1990, when Dave retired, they moved from Burbank to the Central Coast of California and now live in Arroyo Grande.
Their two oldest sons still live in Burbank. David and wife Wendy have three children and Steve and wife Diane have three children. Their middle son Paul lives in Eugene, Ore. and has two children. Their two youngest sons live in Spokane, Wash. John and wife Christi have three children. Phil has two children.
To celebrate their 50th anniversary, the Claytons took a trip in their recreational vehicle to see each family. A memory album was presented to them, handmade by family members with a letter from every family member included. The couple ended their monthlong celebration with a stay in Palm Springs.
