Gene Edward Spurlin, 79, of Greenwell Springs, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Holt, Fla. He served and defended our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars before retiring with 20 years and 25 days of service. Gene also worked as a construction engineer and was with Walk, Haydel and Associates for 18 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church for 35 years where he taught Sunday school. He also served his Savior by preaching at many area nursing homes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, Thursday, June 3, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home Friday, June 4, from 8 a.m. until service at 10 a.m., officiated by the Rev. B.G. Buchanan Sr. Burial will be in Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Fisk Spurlin; children, Anita Jepsen Gilbert and husband Wayne, Tina Marie Spurlin Kendrick and husband Howard, Edward Anthony Spurlin, Richard Lee Milstead and wife Jennifer, Gail Lynn Milstead Coniglio and husband Joseph, David Leon Milstead and wife Toddie, Jeffrey Alan Spurlin and wife Yennifer, and James Gregory Spurlin and wife Laura; 19 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and sister, Joy Catherine Yow Leake and husband Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Alan Hall and Lessie Leona Spurlin Yow; and siblings, Mabel Hall Ates, Carl Hubert Hall, Mark Thomas Hall, Lambert Allen Hall, Thelma Lucille Hall Beck, Audry Maxine Hall Chestnut, Cecil Wilson Hall, Lance Milon Yow and Robert Carlton Yow.

Wiley's parents were his mother Martha Ann Mitchell, b. 1849, d. 1945, daughter of John Monroe Mitchell & Martha Jane Pickett, & his father Ransom Monroe “Buddy” Hall, son of William (1804-1877) and Elizabeth (Morgan) (1805-1870).
