Individual Details
Young Stokes
(1699 - 5 Dec 1770)
Stokes Family Data/DNA Studies/Wills & Family TreesCitation: Stokes Family Researchers website. Contains the wills of Silvanus II, III, Silvanus IV of Brunswick, Silvanus of Pittsylvania, and Silvanus of Halifax, Young Stokes, and others; contains pedigree trees for several branches with DNA results for common ancestors; and many other documents and sources.
Note: there are differences on progenitors - some claim John Stokes/Ann ?, born England-died VA as father of Silvanus (I)/Mary Bishop; others claim Christopher Stokes, born England-died VA as father of William, who was father of Silvanus (I)/Mary Bishop. There are numerous claims for the father of Christopher Stokes, immigrant, with several sources that vary the line. Some claim Young Stokes as son of Silvanus/Mary Bishop and others as son of Silvanus (II). Similar differences on claims for the father of David Stokes/Sarah Montfort. What is established: they share the Stokes Y chromosome and different ones share the same Haplogroup or subgroup.
------------------------
Source provides access to the original handwritten will of Young Stokes, in possession of Blythe Stokes. It is also stated by Mike Terry, co-ordinator of the Stokes DNA project, that the name "Sherard" came from misreading the bottom of the will where it states "the said" Young Stokes, which does appear to look a lot like "Sherard" Young Stokes.
