Notie "Mac" Alson McCaleb of San Antonio, passed away on May 3, 2013 in his home with his wife, Linda "Brandy" McCaleb at his side. He was born on August 16, 1918 to Noah Alson and Katheryn Vivian McCaleb. The McCalebs migrated from County Donegal in Ireland and settled in the Carizo Springs area of south Texas.
A graduate of Harlandale High School, Notie was honored in 2009 as being the oldest living graduate of that school. In 1941 he joined the Army Air Corps, and spent several years of World War II fighting in the Pacific theatre. After the war he moved his family back to San Antonio where he worked at Kelly Air Force Base Civil Service from 1946 to his retirement in 1969. At that time Notie and his wife, Ruth, moved to Austin where he worked for such companies as Ace Hardware, Austin Energy and Breed & Company.
In 2004 Mac and Ruth moved to San Antonio to be near their daughter Patricia. A few months later Ruth went home to be with the Lord.
Mac met and eventually married Brandy. They enjoyed 5 years of wedded life, traveling, fishing, meeting with friends, going to Karaoke shows, crafting, building bird houses and working with 2 volunteer non-profit agencies. He also avidly followed the Texas Longhorn football team. He will be remembered for his Irish wit, humor, and love of life.
Mac is survived by his wife, Brandy, stepdaughter Jennifer Rollins, husband, Troy, and two Rollins grandchildren; Stepson, Wesley Dominique, wife Lizzy, and one grandson: and stepson Cary Grant, wife, Stephanie: Patricia May and husband Fred, grandson and wife , two great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mac was one of 5 siblings.
Visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Park on Tuesday, May 14th from 6PM to 8 PM. A graveside memorial service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday May 15, 2013, at 2 p.m.
